             Cain's Crossing is actively seeking donors and sponsors for the 2008 Benefit Renaissance Faire to be held on Mother's Day weekend, May 10th and 11th. The Faire transforms the Auburn Regional Park into a Renaissance shire in the year 1592 by creating the atmosphere of a township full of entertainers, royalty and a marketplace with vendors of food, drink, and wares.

             Cain's Crossing Renaissance Faire is an all-volunteer, non-profit corporation that raises funds for the Auburn Education Foundation. Our purpose is to create a hands-on educational event for 7th graders in Placer and Nevada Counties who are studying the Renaissance period. In addition, we also aim to create a family-oriented community event which helps parents experience what their children are learning in school. This local event supports the E.V. Cain Middle School 7th grade social studies department.

             Our Renaissance Faire began as a small school event on the E. V. Cain Middle School baseball field. It was so successful and well-received that we extended it into a weekend community event so parents, families, and more students outside our area could participate. Cain's Crossing Renaissance Faire encompasses one school day on Friday, with hands-on learning-booths in which students can make items (such as wreaths and candles) which were used in the Renaissance era. All the activities are based on the 7th grade social studies curriculum and most of the events extend into the weekend so the entire community can experience them.

              This expansion didn't happen overnight. It took nearly a year of planning from an all-volunteer assemblage of experienced Renaissance Faire individuals and educators from E.V. Cain Middle School. Furthermore, to provide the atmosphere of a Renaissance shire, materials and props for the event were created and donated from individuals, merchants, and businesses in Auburn and the surrounding area.

             Cain's Crossing gained the most support from sponsors such as the Auburn Recreation District, the Auburn Journal, and service organizations and businesses who gave generously so that this experience could be offered not only to our 7th graders, but to students from other schools throughout our county and Nevada County. The hardship of re-creating it each year is getting enough money to make it an on-going event.

             This Faire is the highlight of our 7th grade studies of Medieval and Renaissance times. The Faire transforms the Auburn Regional Park into a Renaissance shire in the year 1592 by creating the atmosphere of a marketplace with vendors of food, drink, and wares. There is also a staging area where entertainers and historical re-enactors can perform for the "Queen" and the public. The costumes are lavish, since each re-enactor and each vendor in all the booths are dressed in period costumes.

              We have a large group of volunteers who assist in everything from selling tickets to constructing and creating the shire. Once again, our biggest challenge each year is in raising enough money for costs and supplies. Aside from the re-enactors, we are fortunate that most of the workers are volunteers comprised of teachers, staff, parents and former parents of students who have attended E.V. Cain. The Auburn Education Foundation has also kindly supported us each year.

             In return for being a sponsor of Cain's Crossing Renaissance Faire, we will be happy to list you and your business as a proud sponsor of our event to be held in May of 2008. We publicize our sponsors in many local newspapers and community bulletins; we will have window posters for many local businesses to advertise our sponsors. Our website also lists our sponsors, as well. Our event is advertised nationally in Renaissance publications, on the internet (www.cainscrossing.org), and in Via magazine.
